Laser Treatments
Gulf Coast Dermatology now has the most advanced laser technology in the Florida Panhandle. We have the Cutera Limelight, the Cutera ProWave 770, the Cutera Coolglide with Laser Genesis, the Cutera Titan, the Candela V-beam Perfecta and the Candela Alex Trivantage. This combination of treatments will allow us to transform the skin and remove years of aging and photodamage. Our 3-D skin rejuvenation process begins with an initial consultation and after a series of treatments you will have new skin with little to no downtime depending on the treatment.
Hair Removal
Gulf Coast Dermatology Introduces the ProWave 770 Hair Removal laser from Cutera. It is the most effective hair removal device on the market for Skin Types I, II, and III. These are light-skinned people who do not have a dark tan. It is not used in those with naturally dark skin or in people with deep tans due to an increased risk of burning the skin. We have just added the Cutera Coolglide which now allows for treatment of tanned skin and darker skin types. It is not as effective as the ProWave 770, but offers a treatment option for those with dark or tanned skin.

It takes 5 treatments spaced 6 weeks apart to maximize the hair reduction. Typical hair reduction is 75-90% after the treatments have been completed. In some cases, touch-up treatments can be purchased at reduced cost for areas that don't respond.
After each treatment, avoid prolonged sun exposure and redness in the areas treated will last 2-4 hours after treatment. Do not pluck or wax hairs in the treatment areas before or during treatment, this will make your treatments ineffective.

Photorejuvenation
What is photorejuvenation? It is the process of using intense pulses of light to remove the brown spots and broken blood vessels that years of sun exposure have caused on the skin. The light targets the red and brown colors to remove them. This treatment is great for facial redness in patients with rosacea. The Cutera Limelight is the most advanced IPL technology available for photorejuvenation and is only available at Gulf Coast Dermatology. Any part of the body can be treated, but usually just the sun-exposed areas need treatment. The process takes about 10 minutes per area and is uncomfortable, but not unbearable, during treatment. A series of four treatments usually provides substantial results.

Laser Tightening
Gulf Coast Dermatology is pleased to announce the addition of the Cutera Titan to the line of already expansive laser systems. The Titan is an infrared device that heats the dermis and deeper tissues leading to immediate skin tightening and a delayed effect that takes up to 6 months for full results. The immediate and long-term results achieved makes the Titan a procedure that is very popular. It is the latest treatment to hit Hollywood and reports that Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, and Brittney Spears are regular customers for Titan procedures. These treatments are great for sagging facial skin, jowls, breasts, thighs, and upper arms. Titan treatments are spaced one month apart and a series of three treatments is recommended.

Laser Tattoo Removal
The AlexTriVantage is the newest tattoo removal laser and the only laser that can remove ALL tattoo colors. This new technology by Candela is also one of the most powerful tattoo lasers available, requiring fewer treatments to remove your unwanted tattoo. Tattoo adjustment can be performed by removing only a portion of the tattoo, allowing a tattoo artist to fix an area that needs to be changed. With this new laser, you really can erase the past!

Vein Treatments
Leg veins are often very difficult to treat and they often times come back a few years after successful treatment. Therefore, it is important for an initial consultation to see if the spider veins are just superficial, or if they are just the tip of the iceberg. If deep venous reflux is detected on exam, then referral to a vein specialist who can treat the deep veins is in order. If it is just superficial veins, then a combination of laser therapy and vein injections (sclerotherapy) will erase the problem. All veins that are troublesome may be treated with the Cutera Coolglide laser and should resolve after 1-2 treatments.

Botox
Botox is the #1 cosmetic procedure performed in the US every year. Botox, or botulinum toxin, is a purified protein that blocks nerves from stimulating muscle contraction. In other words, it paralyzed muscles where it is injected. When injected into the correct facial muscles, the ability to frown or raise eyebrows prevents frown lines and forehead lines from forming. Unless too much Botox is used, it just weakens the muscles and it does not look "frozen." A good Botox outcome looks natural and no one will know that you had anything done. Also, there is no downtime. It takes 4-7 days for the protein to take effect, so don't expect results until a week after your treatment.

Dermal Fillers - Juvederm
Juvederm is the newest hyaluronic acid filler on the market. It is similar to Restylane, another hyaluronic acid filler, but offers many advantages. First, it has been show to be effective for up to a year. Also, Juvederm feels smoother and my patients have let me know that they prefer Juvederm over Restylane. Juvederm is great for nasolabial folds, the corners of the mouth, marionette lines, the lips, and any line or scar that is noticeable on your face.

Dermal Fillers - Radiesse
Radiesse is calcium hydroxyapatite suspended in a methylcellulose gel. The calcium hydroxyapatite is found naturally in the body, but in the skin it stimulates collagen production where it is injected. While most of the Radiesse is gone 4 months after injection, the collagen the body produces lasts for 18 months, providing a longer duration of filling. Radiesse is not for everyone and not for all locations. The injection is with a wider needle, so it is more painful. Also, it can lead to bead formation when used in and around the lips, so it is not recommended in these areas.

Chemical Peels
Superficial peels we perform utilize either salicylic or glycolic acid. The salicylic peel is fantastic for clogged pores and acne-prone skin. The salicylic acid penetrates into the pores and causes exfoliation of the skin for 3-4 days after the peel. There is mild redness the day of the peel, but that is usually gone by the next day. The glycolic acid peels are helpful for discoloration and when uses along with Retin A can decrease wrinkles. This peel is preferred in acne-free, but more mature skin.
Medium depth peels are performed by Dr. Ward with Jessner's solution and Tricloracetic acid. This peel causes the full thickness of the top skin layer to be removed and fresh skin is formed underneath. It gives dramatic improvement to skin discoloration and wrinkles. Downtime is 5-7 days.
